Based on the 2022 Expedition Timberline model that arrives in the first quarter of 2022, the Expedition Timberline Series OTG concept is upfitted with proven names in off-road hardware and overlanding accessories, all to help adventurers confidently trek to those hard-to-reach mountainside trailheads, remote lakes and distant desert dunes.
Most noticeable on the Expedition Timberline OTG concept is its raised stance, custom DeeZee Rock Rail Hoop Steps and unmistakable custom CG Detroit topographic wrap over the factory Forged Green exterior paint. The 2022 Ford Expedition has the best available ground clearance in its class at 10.6 inches and is raised another two inches on the concept thanks to Fox Performance Elite Series 2.5-inch Shocks with Dual Speed Compression (DSC) Adjusters and remote reservoirs at the front and rear. In addition, 17-inch matte black Method 703's are wrapped with 35-inch General Grabber™ all-terrain tires.
To ensure this overlanding rig can set up the best mobile campsite with all the toys, the Expedition Timberline Series OTG concept leverages Ford’s Outfitter collection with dealer-available accessories that include a Thule Tepui Explorer tent with cross bars that attach to the SUV’s roof rails, a factory available transmission shield, an Overland Vehicle Systems Nomadic 180-degree awning that easily pulls out to cover adventure from the elements, and a Wild Land portable privacy room shower.
Lighting the trail and campsite at night, a 50-inch Rigid® light bar is mounted above the windshield with an additional Rigid 20-inch light bar at the front; also, the concept features D-SS Rigid side shooter cube lights above the hood; and finally, Rigid spot lights are mounted within the wheel wells and liftgate to further illuminate those areas. For stargazers, the lights can switch to red with the flip of a switch. A WeBoost cellphone booster is also included and mounted on the roof.
Inside, the Expedition Timberline Series OTG concept reveals an EzStak® custom metal storage drawer that sits under a custom Luno camping mattress with room for two. To make sleeping in the Timberline OTG concept even more comfortable, Luno also provides a concept-specific base extender, window shades and portable USB fan. And to ensure this Expedition SUV Timberline Series OTG concept can handle electric loads needed at off-the-grid campsites, a Clarios Heavy Duty Battery replaces a standard battery.
With its Turtleback Expedition Series Trailer™, the largest trailer in Turtleback’s lineup, the Expedition SUV Timberline Series OTG concept’s capability is further extended in the wilderness. The trailer matches Expedition with Method brand wheels and Grabber all terrain tires. It’s designed to hold additional gear for an extended overlanding trip, including a two-burner propane stove and deep-well sink, a pair of drop-down tables, a 42-gallon water tank and 6-gallon water heater with external shower hookup, and pancake propane tank. Additional available options include a refrigerator, and even a 100-watt solar panel.
